Screenwriter to Author

Much has been written about the significant trend of books being adapted to film or a streaming series. Many of our current Silverlight Press authors have the intention of turning their books into screenplays. However, we have also seen an increasing number of screenwriters coming to us to turn their screenplays into books.

Business-savvy screenwriters recognize the benefits of turning their scripts into books. Most have several screenplays that haven’t been optioned or have not had the right interest. As such, they’ve decided not only to strengthen their writing muscles by trying another medium but also to realize that the path of a book may actually draw more attention and serve as an alternate path, which may increase the potential of ultimately making that envisioned film. It’s also a viable way to monetize their time and effort on scripts that haven’t yet produced the desired success.

Books are much easier to sell than screenplays. Books allow a writer to establish a following and a platform that can build the interest of a film producer or investor. Writing a book can realistically assure that one’s words, in fact, will reach an audience. An author can more readily achieve a celebrity-like status and be sought after for media interviews, speaking engagements, and appearances. Their opinions and insight are valued, and readers want to know who the author is and learn about that author as a person. For screenwriters who love to read, would welcome the chance to delve more into the development of their characters, and dig deep to engage the imagination of their readers, authorship should be considered. Dust off those screenplays filed in a drawer and turn them into another medium, books.
